SADC Regional Laboratory Association (SRLA)
The Sustainable Quality Infrastructure for SADC (SQIS) programme, which has been funded and supported by UNIDO comes to an end this year. UNIDO has been the primary sponsor for a number of years and has been instrumental in the development and sustainability of the SRLA.
The upliftment of both business and technical skills through the various interventions and training programmes conducted, has boosted the capacity and competence in the SRLA’s.
More recently, as part of the ongoing Laboratory Gap Analysis, technical experts were recruited to work with laboratory personnel to pave the way for accreditation readiness assessment, at 9 laboratories in the SADC region in chemistry and microbiology fields.
The SRLA is an official Stakeholder Member of both the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) and the Southern African Development Community Cooperation in Accreditation (SADCA). Membership of these bodies has an impact on the sustainability of the SRLA and plays an important role in collaboration among African and International accreditation bodies.
These initiatives have all created a solid platform for sustainability of the laboratory community in the SADC states and we are proud of the progress and achievements made and trust that the SRLA will continue to grow and prosper for many years to come.
The SRLA has grown immensely with many successes to speak of, which is showcased in the success story document below.
The NLA will continue as the Secretariat of the SRLA and support the sustainability of the laboratory community in the Member States. |

And while we are on the topic of Margaret Ngobeni, we bid farewell to this special lady who is (finally) retiring. Margaret has been an integral part of the SRLA project for 7 years, but was certainly not new to the laboratory community when she joined the NLA, with many years of service at NMISA.
We wish you much happiness and quality time with your family Margaret and thank you for your dedication, commitment and wonderful sense of humour! |
